Roasting Marshmallows for Valentine’s Day, c. 1901.
UW (Madison) student, Flora Davidson, hosts friends for a Valentine’s Day gathering at her boarding house near campus. The young party-goers appear to be wearing heart-sharped badges and roasting marshmallows over candlelight. How festive!
Flora Davidson received a degree in English from UW. In 1901, she was listed in a student directory, living at 813 State Street (current site of the Humanities Building) and pursuing post-graduate work in L&S.
She went on to complete a degree in library studies and worked for many years at the university library (housed in the Wisconsin Historical Society building). Her photo albums that document her time on campus, as both student and librarian, are housed with the University Archives photo collections.
